We chose these website builders because they are packed with features, affordable, and easy to work with.

With these platforms, one can easily create a website on their own, without having to hire a professional.

Best Website Builder for Small Business: Weebly

We chose Weebly for individuals looking for a visual and affordable website builder. It is cheaper than its competitors and offers a variety of features. Additionally, their customer service is quite responsive.

Their phone support service is very convenient, as we were only on hold for less than 45 seconds. Weebly has a free plan, but their Pro plan for $12/month is more suitable for a small business.

These are the best web builders currently available for small businesses. If you need a CMS that is a bit more advanced, consider an e-commerce platform.

Best Website Builder: Weebly

weebly

We ranked Weebly first for their many features. With more than 200 integrations, Weebly has add-ons that can enhance your business website.

Weebly also offers an online store feature for those who need a simple eCommerce solution.

One can drag-and-drop text boxes, images, and any other features to any part of the page on the website. You can also things like textboxes and their sizes to your desired style.

Weebly is easy to use and takes only a few minutes of getting used to. Its scalability appeals to most people since as your business grows, so can you expand your website.

It, therefore, offers no limitation and ideal for businesses seeking to expand.

Given that Weebly comes in different packages, one can upgrade their chosen plan at any time.

This website builder also comes various integrations from third parties like PayPal for payment processing or Google Apps, for a variety of other functions.

Weebly provides different website templates. This allows you to switch between designs and change the look of your website at will.

The website builder appeals to many small business owners because, at only $12 (a very fair price), they can access multiple features.

Weebly allows for unlimited pages, site analysis upgrades, searches sites quickly, together with the option of selling up to 25 products.

The platform is search engine-friendly, and with more than 100 themes, it can fit any business.

Despite all these features, compared to other website builders like Wix and WordPress, Weebly does not offer adequate customization options.

Their fair prices, however, still attract clients to use it as their preferred website builder. If you are planning to start a website, Weebly is an excellent choice that will help create a large market for your products and increase customer service for your clients.

Best for Customized Sites: WordPress Divi

As a website builder, WordPress is best known for customization and outdoes Weebly and Wix. WordPress offers a free content management process allowing the creation of a website at no cost.

The possibilities of having a WordPress site are endless. It is convenient for most customers, allowing them to put their creativity to good use.

Such creativity, however, comes at the expense of a steep learning curve. Unlike Wix and Weebly, WordPress does not offer an out-of-the-box website, ready for use.

WordPress offers a free option that does not, however, come with the drag and drop function. Divi also gives you a 30 day money back guarantee upon payment for the paid plan.

The website builder also offers a quality online store platform. To use WordPress, one has to set up hosting and a domain through a third party service.

One can choose from several options. Bluehost can be used for hosting, a custom domain and a business email.  This will cost you $3.45 a month as a service fee.

After using this process to create a WordPress website, you can later download a theme (a design) for your site and some plugins. Plugins help you enhance the user of your website. Think of them like integration.

For example, we use the Yoast SEO plugin on the website to improve our on-page SEO. Using plugins will help you improve the look and functionality of your site.

Divi is recommended as a top rated theme, even though it is essentially a website builder. It enables the user to create a website on the WordPress platform by using the drag-and-drop technology.

Divi is mostly used by somewhat intermediate users, who got dabbled in web development previously. However, if you try Divi and don’t like it, you do have the 30 day money back guarantee.

One disadvantage of WordPress as a website builder is that unlike Wix and Weebly, it does not offer an out-of-the-box solution, which is usually a big plus for first-time website builders.

Another Great Website Builder for Small Business: Wix

Wix is one of the most common website builders. Being one of the easiest to use in the market today, this makes it one of the top three choices.

However, Wix is not recommended for small businesses because its platform make your site load somewhat slow, compared to others.

This also depend on how your page is organized. If you have so much content and several images, your site will probably load slowly.

Don’t use too many images on one page and Wix may just work for you.

Additionally, Wix is not the most SEO friendly website builder. This can prove difficult to rank well in search engines and get links back to your website.

Wix also doesn’t offer a section where you can enter or edit HTML code. This is fine if you don’t need to customize anything, but it does not offer you full control over your website.

You can’t make design changes to your themes, and so hiring a web designer to customize your site won’t be an option.

Lastly, Wix offers no built in comment feature for a blog. It’s not recommended for websites trying to set up a blog.

To leave a comment, one has to log into Facebook first, which discourages people from leaving any comments on your blog.

Despite all this, Wix is ideal for the creation of quick beautiful websites, which is its true purpose. Many clients also don’t mind it, as Wix seems to have great customer satisfaction.

But, since mall business owners need more than just a plain solution, we don’t recommend it if that is the case for you. 4

Comparing Weebly, WordPress, and Wix

After hours of research, we determined these website builders were the best for small business based on the following:

1) Pricing

The three website builders vary in prices, making this a key element when you decide who site builder to go with. Weebly charges $12 monthly for the recommended Pro Plan; Wix charges $14 for its Unlimited plan while Divi for WordPress charges $69, a one-time fee, for its Personal Package.

For the cost of e-commerce (specifically for those who sell online), Weebly charges $25 monthly for its Business plan, and Wix costs $17 monthly for its eCommerce plan.

It is recommended that one adds the free WooCommerce plugin to enable eCommerce services for WordPress.

Weebly charges additional costs at $19.95 for the renewal of the custom domain name and $4 monthly for email. The same goes for Wix.

Divi for WordPress has additional charges worth $3.45 monthly that cater for email, domain and hosting using Bluehost.

As you can tell, the pricing is different between these website builders, but not by much. Divi for WordPress wins in the category of pricing.

2) Ease of use

Weebly is easy to use.  One is first asked questions about the kind of website one is planning for, ranging from travel, fashion, blogging, business, events, etc. You are then directed to layouts that will best suit the website in mind.

This prompts you to choose a domain name, therefore, bear this in mind as you commence your setup. It comes with the privilege of specifying your desired URL.

Weebly also offers popular features, such as text boxes and images, which you drag and drop, making it both easy and fun to use.

Just like Weebly, Wix is also easy to use because after giving the type of website you have in mind, you get a variety of layouts to try out for your desired site.

Drag-and-drop allows you to move things across the page and editing is also very straight forward.

With Wix, complications only arise when you add unique apps to the website. Otherwise, it is one of the easiest to use website builders available today.

Divi for WordPress is however slightly complicated, and not very straight forward. This is because you need to know what to do to assemble put all the pieces (WordPress, Divi, Web Hosting and Custom domain) together.

This complication, however, allows for effective customization of the website, to your advantage. Using WordPress plugins, one can also change the sizes of elements and their positions on a given page.

For that reason, Weebly is the winner in the ease of use category because it’s simple to set up and use.

3) Hosting and Custom Domain

Weebly includes hosting in each and every plan, inclusive of the free choice. For the paid option, Weebly provides a free custom domain that lasts for three years, at a renewal rate of $19.95/year after the first year.

If you happen to have a custom domain, then you only have to link that area to your website at no cost, so long as you have one of the paid plans.

With Wix, you get free hosting for as long as you have your website. There is also a custom domain free for the first year, followed by a renewal of $19.95 after the first year.

One can also connect their custom domain at no cost if you have subscribed to any of the paid plans.

For Divi for WordPress, no custom domains or hosting are included. It is, however, possible to purchase custom domains, email and hosting from Bluehost for only $3.45 every month.

Both Weebly and Wix are tied here, as they provide free hosting and a domain for a year.

4) Number and Quality of Layouts

Weebly has more than 100 templates though they are not all visually stunning, compared to those on Divi.

They have different design options depending on the website one desires for business, personal or even event purposes.

Access to HTML coding for customizing layouts, however, only suits those who can code.

Wix has around five hundred layouts of good quality, topping the list for any small business owner in search of a unique website.

These allow for easy customization by choosing and replacing images, then texting them according to the type of business.

Divi layouts for WordPress have only 32 handy designs that are entirely customizable, giving a free reign on creativity meaning.

This allows moving  images and text boxes around to meet your desired look for the site.

Wix wins here, with over 500 quality layouts.

5) Mobile Friendliness

It is always easy to control your website wherever you are if available on mobile devices, instead of waiting to get behind a desktop.

Weebly has a mobile website builder which helps you build a mobile responsive site, using a separate mobile builder.

It also has an optimization button that optimizes your current website page for mobile devices, with just one click.

Wix has themes responsive and adjustable to any screen size. They also have a free editor where you can adjust the profile of your website to effectively suit mobile devices.

Divi for WordPress is completely responsive. One can, therefore, preview how their site will look and appear on mobile devices, simply by editing some of these pages.

Weebly and WordPress and both mobile friendly, but WordPress may not be at times (depending on the theme).

6) SEO

SEO is important for ranking on search engine results page. Weebly allows every user to edit and customize any descriptions on their pages for complete SEO friendliness.

Wix allows a user to select their mega tags, page names, and the primary SEO prompts, but since it uses AJAX coding, one has no full control of URLs leading to low ranking on SEs such as Google and Bing.

Divi for WordPress can be edited to suit any search engine by using WordPress plugins such as Yoast to enhance SEO potential.

7) E-commerce

Weebly has a reliable e-commerce option which integrates with PayPal, and allows discounts, provides shipping options, among others.

There are also no transaction fee charges for the business plan level. It also provides a site security license (SSL) for the site keeping clients’ credit card information safe.

With Wix, a user can integrate different payment processing providers, allow discounts and save the shipping profiles at no extra cost.

It is also secure with SSL, but if one wants to sell digital products, you have to pay and download a third party app.

Divi does not have an built in  e-commerce system. You can, however, download WooCommerce for free via WordPress, with features like shipping options.

It’s also possible to get an SSL through your current hosting provider, such as Bluehost, who charges just $4.17 per month.

8) Blogging

Weebly connects to social media sites, creating a good blogging platform. It helps users to schedule automatic posts and helps to create an unlimited access account.

where other bloggers can participate too. This facilitates coming up with better features that many website builders do not avail.

Wix, on the other hand, lets one write posts, schedule them and connect to social media. The biggest problem, however, comes in because a user has to login to Facebook or other social media site, to make a comment.

Commenting features can be outsourced through third platforms, but this is not ideal because they come at additional costs.

Divi for WordPress offers excellent blogging features, allowing you to program automatic posts, secure posts for authorized users only, and have an email address that will publish the content sent. You can also connect directly to social media.

All three are pretty much great when it comes to blogging.

9) Business Email

None of the three website builders includes email in their purchase price. One can, however, create one with any of the three, to appear more credible to customers.

Weebly offers Google Apps integrations where one can create an email for only $4.08 every month. This is possible directly on the website. The same also goes for Wix, which offers business emails costing $4.08.

Divi for WordPress does not provide email activity directly, but with the help of Bluehost, one can get a business email free of charge.

10) Primary Integrations and HTML Coding Access

Integrations boost the functionality of a website.  Weebly allows the user full control over their website internet coding and has integrations such as PayPal, Google Apps, QuickBooks and others. More than two hundred apps can be downloaded as add-ons for Weebly.

Wix also offers a similar package for integrations and has a lot of primary integration such as PayPal, Open Table, Stripe and many other options too. With Wix, one is not able to access their site wholly or make changes.

This is as a result of no acess to HTML code, which results in professional coders avoiding avoiding the platform.

Divi, on the other hand, comes with thousands of integrations that greatly contribute to the customization and functionality of a website.

It allows full HTML access to your site and has almost all major integrations like social media. Divi can also integrate with any software be but may only be available at an additional cost.

11) Customer Support

With regards to customer support, Weebly is ranked first since they offer live chats, emails, and self-help forum support, together with phone support 24/7. Reviewers rate it very highly and commend them for a job well done.

Wix has phone support, but this is only available for the VIP plan subscribers. You otherwise have to book an appointment to talk to a live representative.

If not, you will have to contend with an automated system. One can also reach the support team through online platforms or by emailing them.

WordPress support is majorly through self-help mediums which offer in-depth knowledge inclusive of great tutorials. You can also reach them through contacts available on their page.

Our Final Take on the Best Website Builder

Weebly, Wix, and WordPress are some of the best website builders and are familiar to many people, thus come greatly recommended.

They all offer impressive features on websites for small business owners who want to attract more customers.

They are however not the only website builders available. There are others to choose from if these three do not fit what you are looking for.

Squarespace is suitable for designers and photographers who need a visually stunning website to promote their work.

Shopify is ideal for those looking for an e-commerce platform. Jimdo is cheap compared to most competitors and allows you to sell five products online with the free version.

Zillow fits perfectly for real estate ventures since it captures leads on whichever page.

Adobe Muse is great for web designers as it encourages design freedom without having to code. The list is endless and offers a variety to choose from.

As seen above, we recommend Weebly as the best website builder since it is easy to use, affordable, familiar and also portrays useful features you would want for your site. This is followed by Wix, and finally by WordPress.
